Seasonal Ride Changes

It's that time again.  The light is shifting, and the seasons are advancing.  We have to start making changes to our weekly riding schedule.

This week's Novice Road Ride will be the last one for the regular Summer Schedule Format.  The ride will go out at 6:00 PM as usual, on Thrusday 16 September.

Next Week:  Nights Under Lights!  This is a new one.  We'll use the Novice Road Ride course and general format.  The big difference is that there will be a "Lights and Reflectors Requirement."  If you wish to come out with us, you must have good head and tail lights, reflective vest or sash, and reflective ankle bands.  Honest, folks, even if you can finish before you lose the light, it would only take a small event to put you in the dark on your return.  Safety First!  Besides, night group rides are FUN!

Wednesday Night Path Ride:  This one is about to change too!  Lights will be required after September 15.

Let's all great the season, get those lights out and working.

If you don't have lights, or are uncertain about their suitability, please come and chat with us in the shop.

The reports of my death were an exaggeration.

We are open and doing business, ready and willing to serve, and happy to be here.  Just like Mark Twain, rumors of our ending are unconfirmed, and we haven't noticed that we aren't here.  Come on in and see for yourself.

I thought of it while I was riding my bicycle...

That is a quote from Albert Einstein, in reference to his Theory of Relativity.  What great thoughts will you have while riding your bike?

You never have the wind with you - either it is against you or you're having a good day.  ~Daniel Behrman, The Man Who Loved Bicycles

All bicycles weigh fifty pounds.  A thirty-pound bicycle needs a twenty-pound lock.  A forty-pound bicycle needs a ten-pound lock.  A fifty-pound bicycle doesn't need a lock.  ~Author Unknown

It can be scientifically demonstrated that, when riding a bicycle around a closed course, it is uphill and against the wind, all the way 'round, and in both directions.  Finnegan O'Toole

Come see us!  Tri spoken here.

Bicycles Unlimited

We apologize! Our e-mail "Shop For Sale" had some unintended consequences. We had no intention of causing activity or deep concern. We simply did not realize how much impact the last line of that e-mail would have.

Quite simply, poor choice of words. We have far too many ethical, not to mention legal obligations to the community, customers, co-workers, landlord and suppliers to simply lock the doors.

The closing statement should have read something more along the lines of "We (the Anderson family) will be closing a chapter of support in daily functions of Bicycles Unlimited".

Many questions and concerns came our way since our initial communication. "Where are you going?", "Are you moving?", "Where do we go for our bike stuff?", "Who is going to take care of me?", "What happens with my warranties/guarantees?", "Is Tour Of Faith still on?" and more.

We are not clairvoyant but here is what we can tell you. Mark and Holly are NOT moving. We WILL continue to support and grow cycling in this community and Georgia. Bicycles Unlimited (hopefully) will continue as it has for 14+ years. It is too much a part of this community to simply disappear. Warranties/product guarantees can be supported as well. Tour of Faith WILL be supported and promoted by at least the Anderson family to support Bicycles Unlimited and benefits to be decided.

While there are many questions to be asked and answered regarding the future, we are NOT simply locking the doors and running away. That is not our style. We love you all too much for that. Mark will simply not be running daily operations. Until we find an appropriate resolution for this, we will still be active in the business.

I am sorry for the panic caused by this statement. It's a big step for us and while we proofread the letter, we did not intend the final statement to sound is it did.

Thank you all for your patience, understanding and support as we transition (as smoothly as possible) to the next phase of our lives. We look forward to seeing you as we make the most graceful, careful and thoughtful conclusion to our involvement with the ongoing entity Bicycles Unlimited.

Go ride a bike!!!

Spring Arriving!!!

Hopefully ALL were able to get out this past weekend!  As I was around town, I saw TONS of cyclists, families, friends etc. enjoying a Pre-Spring day.
One plea from me:  As you are out there, enjoying your two wheeled time, HELP A FELLOW CYCLIST.
Take time to see if folks need to raise their saddle, pump up tires, straighten handlebar, etc etc.
Many LOVE to ride bikes, but don't get to as often as we do.  When they DO take time to ride, their bikes have been sitting/jostling around the garage for FAR TOO LONG.  Help them enjoy the ride, they'll come back more often.

GOAL? Every American on a bike, 3 times per week.
You were helped at some point in your journey, Pay It Forward.

What if it rains on Saturday?

Rainy day blues?  Come on down to the shop anyway! We have lots of ways to handle a rainy day.

You can ride inside! That’s right. We have a training room. You could bring your stationary trainer and catch a ride indoors. (We can rent you a trainer if you don’t have one.)

How about riding the Computrainer? This is a computer driven training tool.  The computer adjusts your load to simulate real world conditions.  You are cued with a very realistic video display, and you ride pre-loaded courses.  A wealth of data is displayed, including power, speed, cadence, climb grade, and heart rate data.

For $30 per hour, we can set your bike up on the Computrainer system. You can choose from a wide variety of courses, such as Assualt on Mt Mitchell, IronMan Coeur d”Alene, IronMan Kona, or Tour de France stages, and many more.  A great workout is assured.

Ever wanted to learn to ride rollers? They provide an outstanding workout, and will smooth your technique wonderfully. Give us a call. A one hour lesson, for $75 is all you need to acquire this skill.

Or just come in and say, “Hi!” We’d love to see you, rain or shine.

GROUND HOG .....I WISH HE WOULD HAVE JUST STAYED IN BED!

I'm sure you've heard by now that Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow today telling us there are six more weeks of winter.  Haven't we had enough?  I think so!  Knowing this we know how eager everybody will be when the warm days come to hop on their bikes and get outisde and ride.  So, be ready......bring your bike(s) in to Bicycles Unlimited NOW for your annual tune-up.  And, when you do, mention this blog and receive 20% off all labor charges on any labor completed before February 28th.

Meanwhile Bicycles Unlimited is still doing spin classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.  Check out the detail by clicking on Rides and Events.

Yes! We are riding TONIGHT.

That's Wednesday, January 27, 2010.  Starting from Bicycles Unlimited, at 7:00 PM (sharp).

Charge your lights and lay out your chilly weather clothing.  Come on out and join us.  We'll be riding the Peachtree City paths for about an hour.  These are fun rides, and we don't leave anyone behind.

Helmets and lights are absolutely required for these night time rides.  It is dark out on the trails at night, but the traffic is very light, and the fun factor is really high.

See you there.

It's a Sunny Day!

We hope you are out and enjoying the sunshine.  Stop by and tell us about your ride!  We enjoy seeing you all.  We like to see and hear what you are doing on your bikes.  We are especially proud of you Winter riders.

So do come in and tell us about it.
